Typing a trip into an app and getting an itinerary back is normal now. What comes back differs a lot: a list of ideas, a day-by-day plan, or days that actually work on the ground.
We make SwipeSights, one of the apps below. Everything about the others comes from their own sites, help pages and store listings, checked on October 24, 2026. “Not claimed” means the app does not say it does this, not that it never does.
How can an app plan a trip for you?
- You describe it in a chat: Mindtrip, Tripadvisor, Google Gemini, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Trip.com’s TripGenie and Layla.
- You fill in a short form: Wonderplan, Stippl and Polarsteps ask where, when, who and what you like.
- You pick the places: in SwipeSights you swipe through real places in the city, and the plan is built from your picks.
- You forward your bookings: TripIt and KAYAK Trips build an itinerary from your confirmations, but do not choose what to do.

What should you check in a plan an app made for you?
- Opening hours and closed days: many museums close one day a week, and a plan that ignores it sends you to a locked door.
- The order of the day: if the stops zigzag across the city, you spend the day walking back and forth.
- Time at each stop: leave room to queue, walk between stops and eat.
- Tickets: some famous sights need a timed ticket booked days or weeks ahead.
- That the places exist: a generated plan can include somewhere closed for good or for repairs.
Can an app plan a trip for a whole group?
Most of these apps plan from one person’s prompt, and the others can only edit the result. In SwipeSights everyone picks places on their own phone and the plan is built from all the picks. Pilot lets a group heart ideas, and WePlanify runs polls.
