Almost every trip planner says it is free. What matters is what the free plan does, and the limit you will run into first.
We make SwipeSights, one of the apps below. Everything about the other apps comes from their own sites, help pages and store listings, checked in October 2026, and we have put our own limits in as plainly as everyone else’s.
What does free mean in a trip planner?
- Free, with no paid plan: Google Maps, KAYAK Trips, Tripadvisor’s planner, Mindtrip and Pilot.
- A free plan with limits: most planners. The free plan works, and a paid one removes a cap or adds features.
- A free trial: the full app for a few days, then a subscription. We left out apps that are only a trial.
What does each free trip planner include, and where is the limit?
